As Authentic Brands moves to shut its doors, we mourn not only the decline of a beloved icon but also the jobs that will be lost in the process. This shakeup raises concerns among sales associates at other esteemed establishments like Bergdorf, Saks, and Bloomingdale’s, highlighting the uncertainty facing our cherished retail landscape.
It looks like Barneys buyer Authentic Brands will be closing the Barneys flagship store on Madison Avenue. I’m really sad. It’s a loss of a true New York icon, plus the awful loss of jobs.
I always took for granted that the luxury retail department stores on and around 5th Avenue would always be there. Now, when I talk to sales associates from Bergdorf, Saks, and even Bloomingdale’s, they all voice concerns about the future of these New York icons.
Crushed to see you go, Barneys. It’s been grand.
