Turquoise Might Be Trending, But I Prefer These Classic Summer Colour Trends That Never Go Out of Style
Our take

The cyclical nature of fashion dictates a constant churn of trends, and this summer is no exception. While turquoise undeniably holds a moment in the spotlight, the enduring appeal of classic summer colors speaks to a deeper truth: true style transcends fleeting fads. The pursuit of ease, as highlighted in the referenced article, is a guiding principle for the modern woman—a desire to curate a wardrobe that feels both effortless and eternally chic. This isn’t about chasing the ‘it’ hue of the season, but rather investing in foundational pieces in shades that resonate with timeless elegance. For those seeking a deeper dive into seasonal styling, consider our recent piece [If You Want to Look Cool (Not Cheesy) This 4th of July Weekend, Wear This, This, or This] for curated outfit ideas that prioritize sophistication over spectacle.
The rise and fall of color trends often mirrors broader cultural shifts. Turquoise, for instance, might reflect a yearning for escapism and a connection to nature, reflecting current travel desires. However, the lasting power of neutrals—crisp whites, sandy beiges, classic navy—remains rooted in their versatility and ability to act as a blank canvas for personal expression. These are the colors that build a foundation, allowing for seasonal accents and bolder statements to be incorporated without compromising the overall aesthetic. The focus should always be on quality over quantity, selecting investment pieces in these enduring shades. This philosophy aligns perfectly with the appreciation for enduring design exemplified by accessories like The Row's Cecily bag, which we explored in [The Row's Cecily Bag Is the It Accessory of Summer 2026]. A carefully chosen bag in a classic hue can elevate even the simplest ensemble, demonstrating the power of timelessness.
The current landscape of fashion underscores a growing desire for mindful consumption. The rapid pace of microtrends, as evidenced by the fleeting popularity of styles like those observed in Los Angeles, [From Bug-Eye Sunglasses to Tube Tops: The Microtrends Dominating in L.A. This Summer], can lead to a sense of overwhelm and ultimately, unnecessary purchases. Opting for classic summer colors is an inherently sustainable choice. It’s a rejection of the disposable nature of fast fashion and an embrace of a more curated, intentional wardrobe. This shift reflects a broader cultural movement towards valuing longevity and quality, prioritizing pieces that will remain relevant and cherished for years to come. It's about building a wardrobe that tells a story, one rooted in personal style rather than fleeting trends.
Ultimately, the preference for classic summer colors over fleeting trends represents a quiet revolution in the fashion space. It’s a move away from the pressure to constantly reinvent oneself and towards a more grounded, sophisticated approach to personal style. This isn’t to say that experimentation is discouraged; rather, it suggests a strategic approach—integrating trends thoughtfully within a framework of timeless essentials. As we move forward, will we see a continued shift towards prioritizing quality and enduring style over the ephemeral allure of the latest microtrend, and how will this impact the way luxury brands position themselves within an increasingly conscious consumer market?
If there’s one thing I strive for when it comes to dressing for the summer heat, it’s ease. I want to look stylish and put-together without too much thought actually having to go into my outfits, and on those hot, heatwave days, the last thing I want to do is try on an array of things before I decide on a look. With that in mind, I tend to rely on a capsule wardrobe of items that are considered, chic and yet effortlessly thrown on, and the joy of perfecting those classic staples means they can be interchanged to create new looks each time, with the confidence that they will work together.
After recently taking a good look at my wardrobe, I came to realise that all of my capsule staples sit in the same colour palettes. Opting to stick to a classic colour palette each year ensures that summer pieces are less trend-led and sit more in the 'forever' wardrobe territory, meaning that rather than only wearing them for one summer, they can be brought out each year and work no matter the current trends.

1. Black

Style Notes: Black in summer is a non-negotiable for me. It exudes style and a quiet elegance that makes every look feel refined and put-together (despite what people might think about overheating). Pair with black accessories for an all-black look, or inject a pop of colour in the form of a bag or shoe to subtly break up the colour like Ingrid [pictured above].

2. Butter Yellow

Style Notes: I have to admit, butter yellow was a huge step outside of my comfort zone as pastels usual intimidate me, but as soon as I embraced the sunny warmth, I can’t imagine not wearing it every summer going forward. Its soft, warm hue feels considered and elevated, and its one of the few 'pretty' colours that feels chic as opposed to too "girly".

From floaty dresses to cotton poplin skirts, it’s a must-have in the summer months; and the added bonus is, it makes your tan really pop. Invest now in tees, tanks and shirts to wear with shorts, you'll be able to layer them up into autumn too.

4. Brown

Style Notes: As a neutral obsessive, cocoa browns always get a yes from me. Giving a softer finish than black, this grounded colour still feels appropriate to wear no matter the occasion without being too harsh. It pairs so easily with other colours such as butter yellow, white or even red, or can be worn for a full-brown look too.

5. Khaki

Style Notes: Don't panic—the key to styling khaki is to view it and style it as a neutral. Yes, it is green, but It's such a versatile shade that it has become known as one of the new classics. It might not be your first choice over black or white, but it is far less intimidating than other shades of green like lime or apple.
