Restructuring my rates

I’ve been shooting events for about 5 years and at the moment I’m billing $100/hr for shooting and $50/hr for editing. It feels a little strange to split the rates up especially when my client has no idea how much time I’m editing for, so when they get the invoice they just have to take my word for it.

I’m thinking of simplifying it to $150/hr for shooting, which includes editing. I think depending on the job it could be positive or negative, if I’m in tough light that requires lots of editing time then I’ll get screwed but on the flip side if not much edit is required then I’m making out pretty well.

I also considered just a simple flat day/half day rate, that’s what I do when I work on film sets as a DP. Thinking $600 for half day (4 hrs) and $1200 for full. The rate itself doesn’t change but the way I present my billing does.

I’m in a small town in Michigan so hourly rates are obviously not going to be LA/NY levels.

Wondering how others structure shoots. Also would be curious to know how you notify clients that your rates went up.
