online spreadsheets, but faster
I've been working, currently in the research phase, on a project that allows users to edit spreadsheets online, collaboratively if needed, but with a different approach than Excel Online and Google Sheets. The focus is on speed and privacy. My current diagram would allow editing very large documents even on a smartphone, something that current services don't do well, and this is achieved through significant optimization. It would allow importing Excel files with excellent formula support and exporting in Excel format if necessary. The project uses Cloudflare infrastructure and pre-built open-source tools. My question is whether the market actually needs something like this. I'm using it out of my own need; I've used Excel Online on low-end laptops, and it's unbearable with very large files. But I'd like some feedback from users of these platforms. Would they use a new service with a much faster response time than these services, but one that doesn't have the existing ecosystem of Microsoft and Google? What would they expect from a new platform? This feedback is necessary for me, as the project is demanding; it's not a weekend job. And it wouldn't be profitable in the short or medium term, since casual users wouldn't pay and companies don't pay for a new platform. Perhaps within a year, I would have to absorb the expenses myself, and although I've optimized costs and initially it's practically $0, just time, the expenses would escalate before the profits.
