Fire At UAE’s Khor Fakkan Port After Projectile Splashes Near Container Ship Injures Four

A container ship at Khor Fakkan Port in the United Arab Emirates reported suspicious activity after multiple splashes from unknown projectiles were seen close to the vessel during loading operations, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The vessel’s master said the splashes occurred very near the ship while it was alongside at the port. Following the report, UKMTO advised ships in the area to proceed with caution and report any unusual activity.
Authorities in Sharjah, where the port is located, confirmed they were responding to an incident that targeted Khor Fakkan Port.
Officials said emergency teams were deployed and the situation was brought under control, with investigations ongoing. They urged the public to rely only on official updates and avoid spreading rumours.
Further details from the Sharjah Government Media Bureau said the incident involved falling debris after a projectile was intercepted by air defence systems.
The debris led to a fire at the port, which was later contained by response teams. Cooling operations were still underway.
Four people were injured in the incident. A Nepalese national was seriously hurt and taken to hospital, while three Pakistani nationals suffered injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
Earlier, authorities had announced they were handling an incident at the port and would provide updates as more information became available.
This comes days after a drone incident targeted the administrative building of Thuraya Telecommunications Company in Sharjah’s Central Region. No injuries were reported.
The UAE Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems had recently engaged multiple threats. On April 5, the systems intercepted nine ballistic missiles, one cruise missile and 50 drones launched from Iran.
Since the start of what officials described as Iranian attacks, the UAE said it had intercepted 507 ballistic missiles, 24 cruise missiles and 2,191 drones.
Authorities said there were no new fatalities or injuries reported across the UAE in the past 24 hours. However, earlier incidents have led to the deaths of two armed forces personnel and a Moroccan civilian working with the military.
Ten civilians of different nationalities have also died, while the total number of injuries has reached 217.
