Places To Visit Near Nagoya In May?

Hey y’all! I’m an American visiting a friend in Japan. We’ll be staying with his parent at their house in a town close to Nagoya. He asked me for some suggestions on where we could go and I told him I would do some research.

I’m really down for anything, but I’ll only be there for around a week so preferably places within a few hours train ride of Nagoya! I’ll take restaurant advice, sightseeing locations, cultural sites, or anything fun! Advice for the trip is also welcome! This is my first time leaving the country, so I’ll probably need it.
