RIP, Little Peep.

Third time ever, having chicks mailed to me from way up in yankee territory. No casualties in the first two shipments but finally the other shoe dropped. This latest shipment reached New Orleans only minutes after the truck for my little town left, so the babies were stuck for 23 hours in New Orleans. I picked them up in our local post office when the doors opened, and I thought they were all alive, but one little cheeper will cheep no more. Little fella probably was trampled by the rest as they all piled up together in the corner of the box. Apparently only dead for a couple of hours, no rigor mortise etc. So not the hatchery's fault. The others seem fit and active and are now in the brood bin, basking under their heat plate and having a nice conversation about their fallen brother or sister.
