Going to California for the first time

I am torn between staying in San Diego or LA. My trip isn’t super long, & I would plan on going to the city I don’t stay at, at least for the day. I am more so leaning towards staying in San Diego bc I heard its a little more laid back, & just traveling to LA for the day. But Id be lying if I said I don’t want to do all the touristy shii in LA (sorry yall). What do you guys think?
